The International Trappist Association is a international non-profit association, whose head office is located in Vleteren (B). The following pages will introduce you to our aim and values.

"Trappists" in "Trappistines"

The association is composed of 18 monasteries of the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance (COSO), commonly known as "Trappists" and "Trappistines".

The Rule of Saint Benedict

The monks and nuns are live according to the rule of Saint Benedict, putting the moto "Ora et labora" (prayer and work) into proactice by producing various products which provide for their own living expenses and which also enable them to help others in need. This site contains a list of their entire range of products.

Authentic Trappist Product

Some of these products carry the label "Authentic Trappist Product". What does this label mean? Which products carry this label? Why is the "Trappist" trademark protected? These questions will be answered in this website.

Monastery Stores and other services

Many of the monasteries have a Monastery Store and a Bookshop locates on the grounds. A few of them have a Tasting Room and one monastery even offers a tour of the ruins of the ancient buildings. This kind of information can be found in the "services"   section of this website.
