Trappistbeer 'Scala Coeli' received authorization to carry the ATP label
On September 17, the beer was presented to the Board of Directors of the ITA (International Trappist Association). After tasting, discussion and voting, the beer received the ATP label for a period of 5 years.
The hexagonal “Authentic Trappist Product” label attests that this beer is produced in full compliance with the rigorous regulations of the International Trappist Association, of which Tre Fontane Abbey has been a member since 2014. This means that the beer is produced within the walls of the monastery itself, under strict supervision of the monks, and that the profits are used exclusively to support the monastic community, for charitable works, and for the preservation of the cultural and historical heritage of the monastery. The roots of the monastic complex go back to 67 AD, when the martyrdom of the apostle St. Paul took place there.
ROME – Tre Fontane Abbey is launching a new beer to complement its primary product, “TRIPLE TRE FONTANE.”
Just as “TRIPLE” is characterized by the aroma of eucalyptus, a tree which the monks have been cultivating and harvesting for 150 years, so also is “SCALA COELI” inextricably linked with the ancient abbey complex: the new beer includes bitter orange peels from trees which have always adorned the cloister and monastery grounds.
“SCALA COELI” is a top fermenting beer with an ABV of 6.7%, characterized by a pleasant fruity bouquet, accentuated by hops due to dry hopping. The bitter orange is a wise and balanced accompaniment to these choice hops, giving this beer a roundness and body. The whole is enclosed within a pleasantly bitter note.
